Three days ago first snaps showing the new T-Mobile connected phablet leaked out. But until now, the device’s look and design was something of an enigma, since the leaks didn’t’ say a word on the specs and design, they just announced new device being added to the T-Mobile’s offer. Today we can say more about the device since some of its specification details come to the light. The leaks report that ZTE’s phablet, nick-named “Olympia”, appears to be mid-range device.
ZTE Z970 aka ZTE’s Olympia Phablet for T-Mobile
The Olympia’s official model name is the ZTE Z970. Although many of its specs are still unconfirmed, the device is said to sport a colossal 6-inch display which locates the device in the phablet devices sector. The display made a huge impression on the source of the leak, who said that in terms of the display size, it has nothing in common with his personal Galaxy S5 with measuring 5.1-inch display. The other screen specs are leaving space for countless speculations. We don’t know anything about the display technology, whether it will using LCD or maybe AMOLED. The resolution is also a great unknown, but the device is speculated to have 720p.
Speaking of the phablet body, the manufacturer naively tries to trick customers with metal looking cover. But, it is just an optical illusion, the feel of the device leaves no shadow of a doubt that the alleged brush metal is in fact pure plastic.
Furthermore, the location of buttons is also quite unorthodox. Why? Well, in most cases the power and volume controls are set on the one side of the device, but not in this case. The Z970 has its power button placed half way up the right edge just under the SIM tray, and the volume rocker along with microSD slot is in the middle of the left side of the device’s body. It is worth mentioning that the SIM tray can be removed only with the help of the SIM ejector tool, just as in the case of iPhone.
As it comes to the Z970’s optics, they aren’t very impressive. The device will house 8-megapixel rear camera able to record video in full 1080p HD, the front-facing shooter is only 0.9 megapixel one. So, this parameters won’t definitely attract the obsessed with shooting selfies users.
Although the battery is said to last entire day without charging, no exact specs concerning its power are known. Simply because, the equipped with a SIM tray unibody, sealed cover makes it irremovable. But, taking into consideration the fact that 6-inch consumes a lot of energy, we can safely expect the battery to be at least 3,000 mAh one. The phablet will sport Android 4.4.2 installed along with some popular T-Mobile apps like for example Visual Voicemail, T-Mobile Hotspot and MyApp. In addition Olympia will be equipped with Wi-Fi calling, which will be accessed via settings menu.
Finally, we still don’t have any hint so as to the phablet’s processor, but is safe to assume that it will be powered by a member of the Snapdragon’s 400 family used for instance in HTC One Mini 2 and Nokia Lumia 635.
Though we don’t have any reliable information on the ZTE’S Z970 official launching date, the gradually occurring leaks can mean that the lasting three months testing phase has certainly come to an end and the phone will be available soon. And even if the specs aren’t the high-tech one, the budget friendly tag will make the phablet a strong competitor in the bigger smartphones sector.
