As of today, the phablet market is richer by one more member of the big phones family. The 6-inch ZTE Grand Memo II LTE was just unveiled at Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. The device is a successor to the original Grand Memo, which debuted also at MWC last year. The Grand Memo II LTE is expected to cost about $300 at launch and starting in April will be available first in China and later on in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific.
ZTE Grand Memo II LTE 6-inch Phablet
The ZTE Grand Memo II LTE measures 161.5 x 83 x 7.2 mm which makes it one of the slimmest devices in its class. Characteristic features of the design include square corners and textured back with sheen tile pattern. The pattern may not look particularly stylish, though obviously it depends on your taste, but certainly provides much firmer grip which is very important in a device this size.
The phablet boasts a huge 6-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for extra protection from scratches. Resolution is set at 720 x 1280 pixels which, given the size of the display, works out to pixel density of 245 ppi. Worth noting is the fact that the display takes up about 80% of the front panel accounting for one of the highest screen-to-body ratios. Under the hood, the phone hides a Snapdragon 400 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM.
Photography enthusiasts will like the Grand Memo II LTE for its 13-megapixel main camera with f/2.2 aperture, Sony BSI sensor, autofocus and flash, however, it is the front-facing camera that is a true hit. The user-facing snapper shoots photos at 5 megapixels and also offers f/2.2 aperture allowing for high-quality selfies.
In addition to LTE radio, other connectivity features of the Grand Memo II LTE include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. The phone sports a decent 3,200 mAh battery which according to ZTE is capable of delivering up to 16 hours of HD video playback or several days of normal use. It sounds promising, though we wouldn’t mind if ZTE was a bit more precise, since “several” can mean anything from 4 to 10 days. The phablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat with ZTE’s MiFavor 2.3 skin on top which was designed to memorize user habits and facilitate everyday usage.
