Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet is the new worthy iPad Mini alternative for cheap

ByinTablets | May 16, 2014

Mi Pad TabletsFor many users Apple is a synonym of quality and style. This quality and style, however, doesn’t come cheap. In fact, Apple products are one of the most expensive devices among all you can find in stores today. So what can you do when you want an Apple-like device but can’t afford to buy one? You can try and look for a more affordable alternative. If it’s the iPad Mini you are after, then Xiaomi’s newly announced tablet, Mi Pad, may catch your eye.

Xiaomi Mi Pad worthy competitor to iPad Mini

Xiaomi Mi PadThe Xiaomi Mi Pad appears to be a worthy competitor to Apple’s iPad Mini, albeit significantly cheaper. The 16 GB model will sell for CN¥1,499 which is about $240. The 64 GB variant won’t be much more expensive – it will cost CN¥1,699 or around $270.

Wondering what you can expect for that much (or rather little) money? Frankly speaking, quite a lot. The Mi Pad features a 7.9-inch display with a high resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, which works out to an impressive density of 326 ppi. Under the hood the Mi Pad has Nvidia’s brand new Tegra K1 chip. Announced in January, the K1 combines four Cortex A15 2.2 GHz CPU cores, a low-power companion CPU core, and a Kepler-based GPU with 192 cores.

The Mi Pad comes with 2 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 64 GB of internal memory, both expandable up to 128 GB through microSD. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera with BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture lens and Full HD 1080p video capture made by Sony. The front-facing camera has a 5-megapixel sensor. The tablet runs Android with Xioami’s own MIUI interface on top which greatly resembles Apple’s iOS thanks to its flat, bright icons with rounded corners and color gradients.

The Mi Pad will be available in five color options including blue, yellow, pink, white, and green which clearly was inspired by the iPhone 5C. The tablet measures in at 7.96 x 5.33 x 0.33 inches (202.1 x 135.4 x 8.5 mm) and weighs 12.70 (360 grams), which are almost the same dimensions as the iPad Mini. Other features include Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 6,700 mAh battery.
