The two most popular operating systems for smartphones today are Android, iOS and Windows Phone. That much knows probably everyone who is at least a little bit familiar with modern technology. The main function is the same, that is to allow users interact with a device at a more advanced level. In practice, however, these platforms are very different from one to another, each coming with its pros and cons. Now, imagine that you no longer have to choose between Android and Windows and you can enjoy the best of two systems in one phone. This picture may soon become reality as the Wei Yan Sofia will reportedly run two operating systems –Windows 10 and Android 5.0.
Wei Yan Sofia dual-boot phone coming soon
The idea is not entirely new. At Consumer Electronic Show 2014 ASUS presented its first dual OS convertible called Transformer Book Duet. When it comes to smartphones, however, it seems that things are more complicated, which by no means discourages manufacturers from trying, though not exactly succeeding. A year ago Karbonn Mobiles was supposedly working on a dual-boot phone, but it appears that the project has been abandoned. This time round a report about a dual-boot device comes our way from China.
A phone called Wei Yan Sofia leaked on Chinese microblogging website Weibo and it looks like it may be running on both Android 5.0 and Windows Phone 10 allowing users to choose one platform or another. On hardware front, the Wei Yan Sofia sports a 5-inch Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie sensor. The handset is also said to be powered by Intel’s low cost Sofia chipset (Smart or Feature phone with Intel Architecture).
While buying a new smartphone you probably wondered which operating system to choose. If you asked your friends then you know that there is no correct answer because everything depends on your personal preferences and needs. If the Wei Yan Sofia is a real deal, you may never have to face this dilemma again. Keep in mind, though, that whatever we know about the phone comes from leaks and rumors not from an official source and may turn out far from the truth in the end.
