Walmart lowered prices on iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and Galaxy S4 ahead of upcoming iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5

WalmartIf you are planning to swing by Walmart soon, check out their latest smartphone deal especially if you are in the market for a new phone from Apple or Samsung. The retailer announced a discount on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C as well as the Galaxy S4, now offering each of the devices at a price lower than in carriers’ stores. That is nice incentive to grab one of the current flagship models before successors in the form of the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5 arrive.

Deals on iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and Galaxy S4

Walmart Deal on Galaxy S4The 16 GB iPhone 5S costs $119 and requires a new two-year contract with either Verizon or AT&T. The iPhone 5C is priced at $29, again with a new contract. The deal is good for customers adding a new line as well as those eligible for upgrade. The price of the iPhone 5S was knocked down by $26 from the regular $145. In the case of the iPhone 5C we are looking at $16 in savings down from $45 before the discount.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 currently costs $49 which accounts for $50 price cut from $99. The phone also goes with a two-year contract. Moreover, if you decide to buy an on-contract Samsung phone, for example the Galaxy S4, between March 9 and 22 Walmart will throw in a $50 gift card. It means that basically you will get the phone for free.

The price cuts are not a big surprise. The Galaxy S5 is due to arrive in April, so it’s about time retailers start making room on their shelves by increasing sales of older models. iPhone, however, is a different story. Apple usually releases new devices in fall, around September and October, so theoretically we are still half a year away from the next iPhone. Except, this time the Cupertino company may change its release schedule.

We have been hearing some rumors suggesting that the iPhone 6 may actually be launched in spring. Apple itself doesn’t comment on the rumors but Walmart’s discounts seem to add fuel to these reports. Then again, the retailer may simply be in the mood to sell the iPhones cheaper and the next-generation Apple smartphone may be released later in the year along with the iPad Air 2.
