The ATIV S has been the subject of much debate over the last few months and for good reasons. Judging from the videos that Samsung has posted, the device seems to be quite interesting, both in terms of design and specs.
For a starter, according to the video, it is said to be the thinnest Windows 8 smartphone on the market, lightweight and at the same time durable. The back of the handset is covered by aluminum-silver with unique grid design of the speaker and camera with flash. On the front you will find secondary camera (above the screen) and home, back and search keys (on the bottom). The Super HD AMOLED display measures 4.8 inches diagonally and offers quite crisp detail and vivid colors. The start screen consists of tiles representing individual apps. The size and the arrangement of the tiles is fully customizable, and the apps can be pinned and unpinned at any time.
The smartphone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and has 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card slot. The Ativ S is equipped with 8 megapixel rear camera / camcorder with auto focus and LED flash. The camera can be accessed by either tapping the camera tile or with the help of a dedicated button. Advanced users will enjoy the wide range of manual setting, for example focus or white balance or resolution in video mode.
An interesting feature of the ATIV S is the password-protected Kid’s Corner, which allows you to keep your phone safe if you have children, by selecting only the apps and content your child can access. Other unique Windows Phone feature is the dedicated search button. With just one click you can enter the search app and easily find what you are looking for.
Additionally, the handset offers three shortcuts that allow you to scan barcodes, cooks and DVDs, identify music that is playing or find nearby locations. The ATIV S comes with Microsoft Office app that allows you to create and edit MS Office documents, send them to SkyDrive and later access from your computer. Of course, the handset offers quick and easy access to social networks, like Facebook or Twitter, so you can keep tabs on your friends and family wherever you are.
