Nokia Lumia 830 for ExpansysTouted as “affordable flagship”, the Nokia Lumia 830 was announced last month at IFA in Berlin. Soon after that, it was confirmed that AT&T would be one of the carriers to offer the phone in the US. So we are waiting, and waiting, and it looks like we will be waiting for another month as the device is expected to arrive on AT&T on November 7th. However, if you are too impatient to wait that long to get your hands on the device you are in luck because the unlocked international version of the Nokia Lumia 830 is available right now from Expansys USA.

Nokia Lumia 830 “Affordable Flagship” Phone

Nokia Lumia 830When presenting the Nokia Lumia 830, Microsoft referred to it as “affordable flagship” and it’s true, at least some of it. The phone is priced at just $449.99 unlocked and contract free and is available in black, white, orange, and green. As for the second part, it’s debatable. In order to deserve to be called “flagship”, a smartphone needs to meet certain technical requirements, which, frankly speaking, the Lumia 830 doesn’t meet. Don’t get us wrong, though. It doesn’t mean that it’s a bad phone. In fact, it has a few very strong points… for a mid-ranger.

To start with, the Lumia 830 is actually a phablet featuring a 5-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels which translates to a pixel density of 294ppi. The phone is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU to take care of graphics, and 1GB of RAM to handle multitasking. There is 16GB of internal memory along with microSD slot supporting up to 128GB cards, and a 2,200 mAh battery keeps the lights on.

Where the Lumia 830 really shines is its main camera. The shooter has a 10-megapixel PureView sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and optical image stabilization. It means that shaky hands and low-light environment won’t be a problem anymore. The phone also has a 0.9-megapixel user-facing camera and comes pre-loaded with WP 8.1 complete with Cortana.

If the price of $450 is too much to pay for you, you can always opt for a carrier-locked version. For that, however, you will have to wait another few weeks. If you want to have the unlocked Lumia 830 now, you can get one at Expansys USA.
