The Unlocked iPhone 5 was finally released in the US without much fanfare. If you missed the opportunity of grabbing the SIM free iPhone 5 from third-party sellers on Amazon or eBay for around $700 depending on the version, don’t feel too bummed out, as you can now purchase it directly from Apple’s Online Store.

Note that the unlocked iPhone 5 is being offered with no carrier subsidy, requires no contract to be signed, and is sold without any discounts. This means you will have to shell out $649 for 16GB model, $749 for 32GB model costs, and $849 for the 64GB model.
The unlocked version is GSM only, which supports AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile and Net 10 pre-paid services. It does not support CDMA frequencies, meaning that the phone won’t be compatible with Verizon, Sprint, Metro PCS, Cricket, Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile.
If you are a T-Mobile customer you may want to wait with placing your order for few next days. There is a rumor that the carrier may be announcing an official release of the iPhone 5 on its network as soon as next week. At this point, this is still all a rumor though, and nothing is officially confirmed but you never know.
If you do decide to get the iPhone, it’s worth mentioning that the phone will be shipped in one week, so should arrive before the holidays and only two units per customer is allowed.
