The one of the major US carriers has just announced the Uncarrier 8.0 stage, which is officially known as Data Stash. It will let the carrier’s customers to keep their unused 4G LTE data from one month to another up to a year. Sounds too good to be true? Well, let’s check if there’s any catch.

T-Mobile Data Stash rollover data service.

T-Mobile "Data Stash"Data Stash is a rollover data service that enables T-Mobile customers to keep the unused LTE and make use of it the following month. So far, the unused data had an expiry date after which it was taken away by the carrier. These practices led customer to buy too big packages of data, paying for something they didn’t need, simply because they wanted to avoid paying high fees for extra data they needed to buy after their had reached their data plan limit.

How T-Mobile Data Stash works in practice? For instance, if you have a 5GB data plan and you managed to use only 2GB of the whole package, it means that those unused 3GB will be added to the next month data package. So, instead of receiving regular 5GB, you will get 8GB. Furthermore, in order to encourage customers to take advantage of the offer, T-Mobile gives extra 10GB of free data to everyone who will enter the new plan.

T-Mobile requires minimum level of service, so every data package within the post-paid Simple Choice starting from 3GB for smartphones and 1GB for tablet per month will qualify for Data Stash. It’s also worth noticing that entering the service is free, which means that no fees will be collected for joining the plan. In addition, there’s no limit of the unused data you can collect and pass to another month, it’s up to you how many megabytes you will save. The only catch is that the saved data has to be used within a year, otherwise you will lose it. The offer refers to all groups of customers: individuals, families and business. No matter, if you’re a new or an existing customer.

T-Mobile Data Stash kicks off January 2015 with the promotional 10GB package valid through December 31st, 2015. Perhaps it will put an end to tricky practices of carriers confiscating our unused data, forcing other service providers to issue similar offers.
