Surprise! No Galaxy, no iPhone but ZTE Axon M is the very first foldable phone

ZTE Axon M is the very first foldable phone
In a contrary to what we anticipated, not a Galaxy nor an iPhone is the very first foldable smartphone. Quite surprisingly for all of us the title goes to the ZTE Axon M. Announced today, the new ZTE phone impresses with innovative design featuring two sharp displays and a package of pretty powerful specs. Let’s take a look at this new bad boy.

ZTE announced the Axon M

ZTE Axon M debuts today sporting a foldable design, two 5.2-inch displays and great audio-oriented features.

When we think of a flip phone, we see a basic phone from a decade ago that was capable of making / receiving phone calls and text messages. Even if we have different models in mind, we aren’t thinking of a generously packed smartphone housing not one, but two full-size screen panels bound together with the help of a dedicated hinge.

Closed in an aluminum body shell, the ZTE Axon M is certainly far from what we have seen in recent years. The phone doesn’t only look futuristic, but also offers the so-far unknown approach to smartphone functionality. Equipped with two 5.2-inch Full HD displays, the handset provides its users with the best multitasking experience ever.

Driven by the previous gen Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor, the Axon M hides 4GB RAM and runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of box. If the OS version seems too old for you, don’t worry ZTE promised it will update to Android Oreo soon. Storage space is delivered by 64GB of built-in storage, which when considered not enough may be easily expanded up to 256GB using microSD cards. Speaking of the optics, they come represented by a combination of two 20MP rear and front cameras. Both sensors sports an f/1.8 aperture, phase-detection autofocus, dual LED flash and image stabilization for photos and videos. Furthermore, just as any other handset of the Axon series, the M offers immersive sound experience thanks to Dolby Atmos, powerful stereo speakers and the AKM4962 chip. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and LTE. Meanwhile, a 3,180 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support keeps the whole thing alive.

The ZTE Axon M will most probably hit the US market in time for the holiday shopping season as an AT&T exclusive offering. As for pricing, the phone is expected to cost something round $725, or $24 per month on a 30-month installment  plan. Do you think is worth it?
