As confirmed back in September, Microsoft’s next generation Surface Windows tablets, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 are now available for purchase. You can grab each slate from Microsoft retail stores, online as well as from such retailers as Staples, Best Buy, or Walmart. Out of the two devices, the Surface 2 is more affordable coming with a price tag of $449. The Surface Pro 2 is more pricey starting at $899. Models with 256 GB and 512 GB of storage will be up for grabs in December.
Microsoft Surface Pro goes for $100 less
The arrival of the new Surface offerings does not mean that the previous model will automatically disappear from stores. In fact, the original Surface Pro with 64 GB of storage is now cheaper than ever selling for just $699. The 128 GB version costs $799. Yes, it means that Microsoft has dropped the price by another $100 in addition to a similar price cut from a few months back. The new price is in effect through December 31st or while supplies last.
However, if you really want one of the most recent models, here is a short reminder of the specs the Surface 2 ships with a 10.6-inch 1080p screen, 1.7 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, and 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory. The tablet also has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 3.5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Surface Pro 2 is obviously more advanced packing a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and either 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. The slate offers 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of internal memory with microSD slot for additional storage space.
