Right now Sprint is the only one of the US major carriers not offering any Windows 8 phones. Actually, Sprint customers could have a taste of the Windows 7 platform with the HTC Arrive, but there is no doubt that the almost non-existent WP portfolio needs refreshing. According to the report, the carrier will start offering two Windows 8 smartphones this summer – the Samsung Ativ S and yet-to-be-announced HTC Tiara. Both phones should be available in May or June.
New Windows Phones coming to Sprint
The Samsung Ativ S was launched in other markets in December 2012 but is not available in the US so far. If the report is true, Sprint will be the first carrier to offer this phone with few minor adjustments. The Ativ S will come with a slightly redesigned exterior but inside you will find all the same specs as in the international version.
The phone will feature a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display, two cameras (8 megapixel unit with LED flash on the back and 1.9 megapixel on the front) and a 2,300 mAh battery. The handset will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and microSD card slot.
The HTC Tiara will be a mid-range Windows 8 phone and will be probably launched with under a different name. It will sport a 4.3-inch WVGA Super LCD2 display, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.6 megapixel front-facing camera, and dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor. Other features worth to mention will include 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of built-in storage and a 1,800 mAh battery.
