Sprint just announced a new program called ‘Bring Your Own Sprint Device’ (BYOSD) which allows the customers to use their old Sprint phones on other carriers. The users are able to bring the deactivated Sprint handsets to Mobile Virtual Network Operators that use Sprint network, including Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, and Assurance Wireless among others. The program is available to Sprint’s MVNO customers beginning today.
Bring Your Own Sprint Device – How it works.
The procedure is very simple and does not require filling in any forms or signing up. All you have to do to participate in the program is a deactivated Sprint device to their MVNO, who must determine the device’s eligibility for the ‘Bring Your Own Sprint Device’ program. If the device meets the requirements, it will be activated and you will be able to use it with your new carrier.
The program offers benefits to all sides. First of all, user will not have to buy a new handset, so they can save quite a large sum of money. On the other hand, Sprint’s Virtual Network Operators will also get something from the deal – they will not have to subsidize the devices.
The BYOSD program is also environmental-friendly. According to a research conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 135 million cell phones are discarded each year. If we reused these phones, we could save enough energy to power more than 24,000 homes for a year. Impressive, don’t you think? So, who is ready to give a second life to an old Sprint phone and do something good for mother nature, while saving some money in the process?
