Last year’s Sony Xperia ZL finally has a successor and it comes labeled as Sony Xperia ZL2. Sony announced the phone this week in Japan where will be offered any time soon by domestic carrier KDDI. Much like the predecessor which was a cheaper and more modest version of the flagship Xperia Z in 2013, the Sony Xperia ZL2 bears some similarities to the Xperia ZL, but also acquired few features from the current flagship smartphone – Sony Xperia Z2. Let’s take for instance the impressive 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display with the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and X-Reality engine.
5-inch Sony Xperia ZL2 Android Smartphone
Although Sony Xperia ZL2 has exactly the same screen as the first-generation Xperia ZL (by the way, 5 inches diagonal plus 1080 x 1920 resolution equals a pixel density of 441 ppi), the phone itself is slightly bigger and heavier. It measures 5.40 x 2.83 x 0.43 inch and weighs 5.89 ounces (167 grams) while the Xperia ZL’s dimensions are 5.18 x 2.73 x 2.44 and 5.89 ounces ( 151 grams) of weight.
Inside the plastic body resides a powerful, quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) processor assisted by 3 GB of RAM, both of which are a guarantee that the performance will be flawless. Internal memory offers 32 GB of RAM for all your content, however, should you find it not enough, there is also a microSD slot for storage expansion compatible with up to 128 GB cards.
One of the biggest highlights of the Xperia ZL2 is its massive 20.7-megapixel, 1/2.3” rear camera with G Lens, 4K video capture and LED flash. Up front sits a 3.1-megapixel camera with BSI sensor. As far as connectivity is concerned, the phone comes with a wide range of options including 4G LTE / WiMAX 2 +, Wi-Fi 820.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X, GPS / GLONASS, MHL 3.0 and NFC. The whole package is powered by a huge 3,000 mAh battery while Android 4.4 KitKat with Sony’s Xperia UI on top runs the show.
At first there were some discrepancies as to the handset’s IP rating, however, it seems that unlike its predecessor the device comes with additional protection against dust and liquid ingression after all. The Xperia ZL2 will be available in three color options – black, white and turquoise and will hit the stores later this month. International availability, however, is still up in the air as is the price. These details should be known soon.
