Sony has a tradition of making pretty solid smartphones; however, for some reason they usually arrive in the US months after they have been released in other markets. Some models remain out of reach for US customers forever, at least when it comes to subsidies purchase through carriers. Take for example the Xperia Z2 – so far no US carrier expressed its plans to sell the phone. There is still hope for the Xperia Z3, though. Based on the FCC’s network test, the upcoming Z3 may be heading to T-Mobile.
Sony Xperia Z3 heading to T-Mobile?
The Sony Xperia Z3 paid a visit to the FCC last month and entered the database under ID number PM-0800-BV. The FCC documentation didn’t reveal much beyond the fact that the device would come with dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE radio, which is a pretty standard set of connectivity features for a smartphone. It was also rumored that the phone would offer support for T-Mobile’s band 12 A-block spectrum. While the A-block compatibility is still up in the air, it’s almost certain that the handset will be T-Mobile-bound.
The latest report reveals that the Xperia Z3 is currently being tested on 3G/4G band 5 (850MHz), band 2 (1900MHz) and band 4 (1700/2100 MHz) as well as LTE band 12 (700MHz), band 2 (1900MHz) and band 4 (1700/2100 MHz). The Magenta network is not being mentioned by the name in the report; however, the combination of bands may very well be treated as a confirmation that Sony will be bringing the Xperia Z3 to T-Mobile.
Spec-wise the Xperia Z3 appears to resemble the Z2. According to the leaks, the phone will pack a 5.1-inch 1080p display, a quad-core 2.4GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. As it is typical of Sony, camera experience will be on decidedly premium side as the main shooter is expected to boast a 20.1-megapixel sensor. There also will be a 2.1-megapixel user-facing camera. It’s unclear when the Xperia Z3 could be announced, but in previous years Sony made its flagship devices official on a Wednesday prior to IFA which takes place in September in Berlin so chances are that the phone will be unveiled soon.
