When the Xperia Z2 was announced at the MWC in February this year, barely six months after the Xperia Z1 launch, Sony promised that the next flagship would arrive within the same timeframe. It’s quite an unusual decision since most manufacturers keep an annual update schedule, but it looks like the Japanese manufacturer didn’t waste its words. The Xperia Z3 is said to go official in August; however, it may not be the only phone coming out of Sony’s factory that month. The Xperia Z3 Compact specs have just leaked out and it appears that the handset may be announced along with the new flagship.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D580x Specs
According to the leak from DooMLoRD, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (model number D580x) will arrive equipped with a 4.5-inch 720p display. Those of you who have just felt a stab of disappointment for not seeing 1080p resolution, don’t forget that lower resolution on a smaller screen still equals more than decent pixel density. Under its more compact hood, the phone may have a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz and paired with Adreno 330 GPU.
The rest of the specs are very similar to the Xperia Z1 Compact and include 2 GB of RAM, an impressive 20.7-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing snapper. A leaked screenshot taken of the “About” screen for the Xperia Z3 Compact reveals that the phone will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board.
Sony is one of the many manufacturers that offer smaller versions of their flagship devices; however, there is a huge difference between Sony and the rest. While mini models made by other companies are not only smaller but also come with lesser specs than their full-size companions, Sony focuses mostly on dimensions leaving top-notch specs at the same level. Probably that’s why the company doesn’t use the “mini” moniker but instead calls its phones compact. And that’s exactly what they are – compact versions of high-end phones. That was the case with the Xperia Z1 Compact and apparently the Z3 Compact will be equally impressive.
Excited with such high-end specification of the device you might have missed the fact that while we talked about the Z1 Compact, we never mentioned Xperia Z2 Compact. Well, that’s because there isn’t one. Actually, there is a certain Xperia Z2a which fits the profile for the Z2 Compact, but it isn’t available outside of Taiwan. Anyway, as soon as we learn more, officially or otherwise, about the Z3 Compact, we will let you know.
