Sony TabletIt is widely believed that the slimmer the smartphone the better, but when it comes to tablets, it seems that the competition is not very fierce in this aspect. This, however, may change soon, since we have a new record holder in the category of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets. The winner is the newly announced Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 which was just unveiled at MWC in Barcelona. We can expect the tablet to hit the stores some time in March at a price range yet unknown.

10-inch Waterproof Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

Xperia Z2 TabletWith the Xperia Tablet Z2 Sony set the bar pretty high. The tablet follows the same OmniBalance design language of its predecessor Xperia Tablet Z but measures a mere 0.25″ or 6.4 mm in thickness, which is less than many smartphones available today.

The device is also the lightest 10-inch slate we have seen so far weighing, only 15 ounces (426 grams) for the Wi-Fi model, and 15.5 ounces (439 grams) for LTE/3G model. The thin profile and light body will be definitely more friendly for your wrists.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 packs a 10.1-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) TRILUMINOS display, with X-Reality and Live Color LED technology, which is the same as used in the Xperia Z2 smartphone. The display is said to produce brighter and more evenly spread lighting thanks to red and green phosphor with blue LEDs.

Another huge improvement is the quad-core Snapdragon 801 which replaced the Snapdragon S4 Pro from the Tablet Z. The chip is clocked at 2.3 GHz and is accompanied by Adreno 330 GPU and 3 GB of RAM.

The Xperia Tablet Z2 comes with 16 GB of internal memory, expandable via a microSD card slot, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Dual cameras are present, with an 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor sitting on the back and a 2.2-megapixel camera located on the front panel. IP55/IP58 rating ensures that the device is dust and waterproof and Digital Noise Cancelling technology is a guarantee of crystal clear sound.

As of the juice, the 6,000 mAh battery provides enough power to keep the slate going for up to 10 hours and Quick charge 2.0 technology lets the tablet charge 75% faster. As mentioned above, the Xperia Tablet Z2 will be available in two models, Wi-Fi-only and LTE/3G, with other connectivity features including NFC, GPS with GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0, IR emitter and microUSB 2.0 with MHL 3.0 support.
