The trend of offering miniaturized versions of flagship smartphones continues and now Sony joins in the fun with its Xperia Z1 Compact. The problem with “mini” models is that in most cases the phones are not only scaled down but also come with severe sacrifices on the hardware front compared to their full size siblings. As sales results show, this is not what customers want. Sony learned the lesson and its Xperia Z1 Compact is almost exact copy of the original Z1 in smaller package. That includes also waterproof capability.
4.3-inch Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Phone
How small exactly is the device? The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact measures 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm and weights 137 g. For comparison, the Xperia Z1 dimensions are 144.4 x 73.9 x 8.5 mm and 169 g of weight. The phone comes with a 4.3-inch display with 720p resolution and IPS panel allows for much wider viewing angles and better contract. Processing power is huge that to a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor that ticks along 2 GB of RAM.
The Xperia Z1 Compact is equipped with a 20-megapixel camera with Sony G Lens, so the photographic experience should be top-notch. The phone offers 16 GB of internal memory and microSD slot for further storage expansion.
Like other Sony high-end smartphones, the Xperia Z1 Compact is waterproof up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. If there is one thing you might not be too happy about, is a battery downsized to 2300 mAh from the 3000 mAh unit of the Z1. However, Sony claims that the battery is capable of providing up to 12 hours of usage time thanks to the smaller display.
