Sony does not want to stay behind other smartphone manufacturers and decided to join in the big phone league with its Xperia Z Ultra. With a huge 6.4-inch display, the device will be a worthy competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Mega and the Huawei Ascend Mate. The Xperia Z Ultra will hit the stores around the world in the third quarter of 2013 with a price tag of around $940 off contract, though prices may vary by country. Latest reports suggest that the phone will possibly be available in parts of Asia as early as July and will arrive in Europe in September.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra 6.4″ Android Phablet
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra weighs in at 7.48 ounces (212 g) and is 0.26 inch (6.5 mm) thick, which is just a tad more than the recently announced Ascend P6.
The phone sports an impressive 6.4-inch 1080p display with Sony’s TRILUMINOS technology and X-Reality for mobile technology. These unique solutions allow for richer colors and improved picture reproduction. The display is also compatible with any graphite pencil, capacitive stylus or metal pen with tip diameter of over 1mm.
The phone is powered by a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, which is paired with 2 GB of RAM. The handset offers 16 GB of internal memory and has a microSD slot for storage expansion up to 64 GB. The device packs dual cameras. The 8-megpixel main Exmor RS sensor offers HDR video recording but unfortunately lacks flash. There is also a 2-megapixel user-facing camera.
The dust-resistant and waterproof Xperia Z Ultra also comes with a massive 3,000 mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box.
