Sony Mobile has just launched two unlocked phones – the Sony Xperia Tipo and the Sony Xperia Tipo Dual. The Xperia Tipo comes in classic black, classic white, navy blue and deep red for $179.99 and the Xperia Tipo Dual is available in serene black or classic silver for $189.99. Both devices comes without contract.
The only difference between these two devices if that the Sony Xperia Tipo Dual is made for two SIM cards, so you will no longer have to carry around two phones. You can switch between two SIM cards anytime with one press on the dedicated hardware key, or set the cards to switch automatically at specific times. Both phones feature a 3.2-inch display with a 480 x 320 pixel resolution and support for 262 000 colors covered with a shatter proof sheet on scratch-resistant PMMA. They are equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera / video recorder with 4x digital zoom, touch capture, image playback supporting BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG and WBMP formats, and video recording and playback in 3GPP and MP4.
The Sony Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 800 MHz and sport 512 MB of RAM. The internal storage is of 2.9 GB, with approximately 2.2 GB available to users, and can be expanded via microSD card slot up to 32 GB cards.
Both phones run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and provide access to Google Mobile Services, for instance Google Voice Search, Google Talk, Google Mail, Google Maps with Street View and Latitude.
Both smartphones offer hours of entertainment thanks to a music player compatible with MP3, 3GPP, MP4, SMF, WAV, OTA, Ogg vorbis formats, audio recording supporting 3GPP, MP4, AMR, FM radio with RDS, TrackID music recognition, xLOUD Experience, which is an audio filter technology from Sony, 3D and Motion gaming and access to social networks for example Facebook.
In terms of connectivity, both phones boast Bluetooth technology, USB High speed 2.0 and Micro USB support, and Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality, which allows you to share your internet connection with other Wi-Fi- enabled devices, like other phones, PCs, laptops and tablets.
Both Sony Xperia Tipo devices come with a 1500 mAh battery which allows for up to 5 hours talk time, up to 470 hours standby time, up to 30 hours music listening time and up to 3 hours video playback time in the Sony Xperia Tipo, and up to 5 hours talk time, up to 350 hours standby time, up to 36 hours music listening time and up to 8 hours video playback time in the Sony Xperia Tipo Dual.
