While the flagship smartphone Xperia Z2 and the Tablet Z2 might have drawn most of the limelight, let’s not forget that Sony announced one more smartphone during its press conference at MWC. The third device is the Xperia M2 and is a mid-range offering with single and dual-SIM support. The handset is set for release in April and should cost more or less €220, or about $302. The prediction is based on the fact that in its presentation Sony kept referring to a “class” of phones which is defined by such price range.
4.8″ Sony Xperia M2 with Quad-core Processor
As you might have guessed from the name, the Sony Xperia M2 is a follow-up to the Xperia M released in June last year. As befits a successor, the phone comes with significant upgrades in some of the key aspects. The phone sports a big 4.8-inch display, however, its resolution at 960 x 540 pixels is somewhat disappointing, resulting in a mediocre pixel density of 229 ppi.
The Sony Xperia M2 is powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor (MSM8226 or MSM8926, depending on connectivity) with Adreno 305 GPU for graphics. In terms of memory, the handset offers 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage expandable up to 32 GB via microSD slot. The device runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and comes pre-loaded with a full suite of Google apps as well as Sony-exclusive services such as Music Unlimited and Walkman.
Like other Sony offerings, the Xperia M2 is characterized by brilliant audio experience delivered by xLoud Experience – audio filter technology from Sony. Other features include slim profile of just 8.9 mm, an 8-megapixel main camera with Sony’s Exmor RS sensor, 4G LTE connectivity, NFC, and front-facing camera. The phone’s 2,300 mAh battery is capable of providing up to 14 hours of talk time or up to 693 hours of standby time and includes STAMINA mode for battery life expansion.
In addition to a standard single SIM model, the Xperia M2 will be available also with dual SIM support allowing you to use two SIM cards at once. Moreover, both SIM cards can be active at the same time. Both variants of the Sony Xperia M2 will be available in black, white and purple color options.
