Although Sony has made water and dust resistant something of a trademark for the Xperia series, this feature was so far reserved for the high-end devices. But, this may change soon since Sony has just added a new smartphone to its list of offerings, the Xperia M2 Aqua. To be more precise, the phone is actually a revamp of the previous Xperia M2, but equipped with the highest waterproofing rating ever found in the history of mobile phones. Feel interested in further details? Let’s take a close-up at the new member of the Xperia family.
Sony Xperia M2 Aqua with IP65/68 water and dust resistance
The certified with the IP65/68 water and dust resistance tag Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is said to be completely dust and water resistant, which in theory means that the smartphone can survive submersion in water deep up to around 3 meters. In practice, the results are even more impressive since the IP58 certified Xperia Z2 survived being buried in 10-meter deep ocean waters for 6 weeks in the frames of the conducted last week test. And, to tell you the truth, after the test the phone was still pretty alive, so just imagine what the IP68-labeled Xperia M2 Aqua can be capable of.
In other words, the prospective users can enjoy using their phones everywhere, anytime, no matter what the outdoor conditions are. This is at least what the manufacturer promises us.
Except this mouth-watering water and dust resistance feature, the new Xperia M2 Aqua is still the same mid-range device as its predecessor. It means that the smartphone will feature a 4.8-inch qHD display and will be powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and combined with 1GB RAM. The phone will also sports 8GB of built-in storage and microSD slot. Whereas the previous model of the Xperia M2 is getting its Kitkat update, luckily the new one goes on sale with the pre-installed Android 4.4.
In terms of optics, there will be also no revelation, the Xperia M2 Aqua is reported to house the well-known from its previous version 8-megapixel rear camera with the Exmor RS sensor, SteadyShot video stabilization and livestreaming function. Additionally, the smartphone will support high speed 4G LTE connectivity as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. All these will be powered by the 2,300mAh battery that according to Sony is the highest performance battery in this price and specs sector, which can keep going all day long, and with using the special mode called STAMINA, you can keep it going even longer.
Sony have always had a very serious approach to waterproofing, and now along with launching its new completely waterproof Xperia M2 Aqua, they are reaching another significant milestone in the mobile history. It is also highly probable that there will be soon a harsh rivalry among other giant mobile manufacturers wanting to deliver their own products with such a high or even higher water and dust resistance certificate.
The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is reportedly said to hit the shelves of retailers this fall. Despite the fact that there is still no word on the device’s pricing, it has been officially announced that the smartphone will initially be available on the European, Asian-Pacific and Latin America markets, as for now we don’t have any hints concerning the Xperia M2 Aqua’s US premiere. The phones will be sold in two traditional color options: black and white.
