Sony announced the lower-mid-range Xperia M back in June. After three months, the phone has finally arrived to the US shore and soon will go on sale also in Europe and Asia. On our side of the pond, the handset is not offered by any carrier, but is up for grabs unlocked through Sony’s official website and Newegg online store. The Xperia M is priced at $249.99 and is available in four distinctive color options, including white, black, yellow and purple.

Being destined for the mid-to-lower tier, the Sony Xperia M is equipped accordingly. The phone features a 4-inch touch screen with 854 x 480 resolution display covered with a scratch resistant layer. The handset’s handsome body houses a dual-core 1 GHz processor with an Adreno 305 GPU. The device comes with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory expandable via microSD slot compatible with up to 32 GB cards. The phone is NFC capable and supports UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 1900 (Band II), 1700 (Band IV), 2100 (Band I) MHz GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MH networks.
The Sony Xperia M packs a 5-megapixel rear camera with 4x optical zoom, 720p video capture, auto focus, face detection, panorama and more. There is also a VGA front-facing camera for video chatting and self-portraits. According to the manufacturer, the phone’s 1,700 mAh battery is good for up to 10 hours 16 min of talk time, up to 498 hours of standby time, up to 6 hours 35 min of video playback time and up to 39 hours 23 min of music listening time. The Xperia M runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
