Sony’s SmartWatch was one of the first devices of this kind. It was a nice little gadget to wear on your wrist, however it had some downsides, such as uncooperative software and high pricing. One year later and Sony is back with slightly redesigned and updated version of the device. The SmartWatch 2, as it is called, will be available for purchase some time in September this year.
New Sony SmartWatch 2 – Overview
The SmartWatch 2 is bigger than its predecessor and features a 1.6-inch display with better resolution of 220 x 176 pixels. Those 0.3-inch bump from the previous model’s 1.3 inches may not seem like too much, however the device now looks much more stylish, not to mention the fact that it is easier to use.
The SmartWatch 2 offers Bluetooth 3.0 for connectivity but also adds NFC to the table for more effortless pairing. It is water and dust resistant, and comes with stainless steel wristband but you can also swap the band for any standard 24mm strap.
Another improvement is the standard Micro USB port for charging, so you will no longer have to use Sony’s proprietary cables. According to Sony, the SmartWatch 2 is capable of the longest battery life of any smartwatch currently available. Depending on how you use the device, the cell should provide 3-4 days of usage time.
The SmartWatch 2 interface resembles the Android UI on a smartphone. Also, the device will be compatible with more phones, however iOS devices still are not included.
