Apart from the Xperia SP, Sony also announced today a second Android smartphone, the Xperia L. Both devices are expected to be released in Europe and Asia by the end of June and we are hoping to see them land in the US some time this summer too. More modest than the Xperia SP, the low-to-mid range Xperia L model is aimed at price-conscious users who value better than average camera experience.
Sony Xperia L with Exmor RS camera
The Sony Xperia L features an 8 megapixel main camera with Sony Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, auto focus, 4x digital zoom and face and smile detection. The unit is capable of recording high definition 720p video and has HDR for both picture and video. There is also a front-facing camera shooting pictures in VGA resolution. In addition, you get a dedicated shutter key that can snap a photo in under a second straight from the lock screen.
The Xperia L packs a 4.3-inch scratch-resistant touch screen with 854 x 480 pixels and is powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. The handset comes with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of onboard memory with a microSD expansion slot compatible with up to 32 GB cards. Like its bigger cousin, the Xperia L runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is pre-loaded with Sony’s own apps like WALKMAN, Movies and Album and also offers xLoud Experience, FM radio with RDS, Motions gaming, NFC, and Wi-Fi with hotspot functionality.
