Moto Z and Moto Z Play pre-sale began

Unlocked Moto Z and Moto Z Play are now available for pre-order in the US. Dressed in Lunar Grey, both phones offer Moto Mods functionality.

Debuting just few weeks ago at IFA the Moto Z line is famous for the Moto Mods. Thanks to these interchangeable magnet backs, you can transform your smartphone into a movie projector, battery powerhouse or a pro-like camera. No matter what your passion is, Motorola has a Moto Mod proper for you. Naturally, Moto Mods aren’t calculated into the phone’s price. If you want to benefit from extra functionality offered by these cuties, you need to buy them separately.

Specs-wise, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play are as different as chalk and cheese. Although both phones come with the same Super AMOLED 5.5-inch screen panel, they sport different resolution. The Moto Z comes with Quad HD resolution, while the Moto Z Play offers only Full HD viewing experience. The same thing may be observed in computing parameters, the former works on a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM, whereas the latter is driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB RAM. When it comes to internal storage, the Moto Z comes with 64GB and the Moto Z Play with 32GB on the board. Both phones offer microSD expansion, accept cards up to 2TB and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Interestingly enough, the Moto Z Play beats the Moto Z in terms of battery life and optics. It is promised to last up to 50 hours (3,510 mAh battery) on a normal usage, and offers a combination of a 16MP front camera with laser autofocus and phase detection and a 5MP selfie-friendly snapper. Meanwhile the Moto Z packs a 13MP primary camera sporting OIS, and is powered by a 2,600 mAh unit, delivering up to 30 hours of usage.

Moving on to the deal details, at Amazon the Moto Z is sold for $699.99, whereas the Moto Z Play costs $449.99. The offer refers to unlocked GSM models sold with US warranty. Already available for pre-order, both phones are scheduled to start shipping on October 2nd and 20th, respectively. As for Moto Mods, sold separately the Insta-Share projector and Hasselblad True Zoom are listed on Amazon site for whooping $299.99 per piece. Just as in the case of the Moto Z phones, they will come at your door in three to four weeks.
