Remember when back in May we discussed Samsung’s plans to release Tizen-powered smartphone codenamed Redwood? The phone was expected to be released in early fall this year. Fall has come and gone and the year is almost over but a Tizen phone is still nowhere to be seen. Don’t loose hope, though. Samsung has not given up on Tizen phones. In fact, we might be treated to a fresh batch of news on the subject pretty soon.
Tizen devices to be revealed on February 23rd
The invitation does not include any specifics besides a promise of “an exclusive sneak preview of the newest Tizen devices as well as an opportunity to learn about the major milestones that the Tizen project has hit since last year’s event.”
If we wanted to be analytical, we would point to the choice of the word “devices” instead of “smartphones”, which might mean that the device will not be a “commercial-focused smartphone” after all.
On the other hand, Tizen-running commercial smartphone would be a logical consequence of Samsung supporting Tizen so vigorously. Besides, World Mobile Congress is all about commercial devices and anything other that that would not make much sense. It might still be months before we see a Tizen phone on a store shelf, but hopefully after the WMC we will at least know what to expect.
