Samsung SM-G800 tipped as Galaxy S5 Mini featuring 4.5-inch HD display, 1.5GB RAM, and Android 4.4 KitKat
It seems that another member of the Galaxy S5 family has just leaked on the web. This time round we are talking about a mini version of the recently announced Samsung’s flagship phone. The tip comes from a Samsung fan-site SamMobile and mentions about a device with a model number SM-G800 which is believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. It would be logical, since the Galaxy S5 was launched with a model number SM-G900. Beyond that the Galaxy S5 Mini is expected to arrive with a 4.5-inch display at 720p HD resolution, 1.5 GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat.
Samsung SM-G800 to be the Galaxy S5 Mini
Judging by the leaked specs, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will be not only smaller but also more modestly equipped comparing to the flagship Galaxy S5. It was to be expected since it was the case with last year’s Galaxy S4 Mini as well. Apparently, the new S5 Mini will pack some improvements over its predecessor, out of which one of the most important is the screen resolution which allegedly will be bumped up from 540 x 960 pixels to 720p.
The report further claims that the handset will come with 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2,100 mAh battery and an IR blaster. The Galaxy S5 Mini is expected to feature IP67 certification like its bigger brother meaning that it won’t suffer any damage when exposed to dust or water as long as doesn’t dive deeper than 1 meter and the bath doesn’t last longer than 30 minutes. The presence, or lack for that matter, of the fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor hasn’t been confirmed but we would assume that you wouldn’t find those features on a mid-range Galaxy S5 Mini.
One of the biggest mysteries is the processor that will the phone come equipped with. A member of Snapdragon 400 family seems like a plausible option, though specifics are still subject to speculation. Our bet is on either a dual-core chip clocked at up to 1.7 GHz, or a quad-core clocked at up to 1.6 GHz. As we mentioned in the beginning, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
According to the rumors, Samsung may announce the Galaxy S5 Mini in June.
