Samsung has been promising its customers a Tizen phones for a very long time. However, every time we thought that the release was about to happen, something unexpected always came up and in the end the device failed to materialize. Don’t worry, though. It appears that Samsung finally got its act together and earlier today launched in India the Z1 Tizen smartphone touting phone’s fast boot time, web performance and battery efficiency.
Samsung Z1 Tizen Smartphone
The Samsung Z1 is not as high-end as you might have expected from Samsung’s previous statements. In fact, based on the specs we would classify the phone as entry-level without hesitation. Offering a 4-inch display with WVGA resolution, the Z1 is a pretty compact handset compared to the majority of devices available today. The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and comes with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage. Other features include a 1,500 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3.1-megapixel main camera and VGA front-facing shooter.
Despite modest specs, the Z1 may actually deliver pretty decent performance thanks to the characteristics of Tizen OS. As you may know, Tizen is an open-source platform that is supposed to become the alternative to the most popular systems that is Android, Windows Phone and iOS. Samsung claims that Tizen is a “lightweight” platform and as such it guarantees quick booting, fast software loading and impressive battery efficiency. Customers in India will also get a three-month subscription to popular music service Hungama and to live TV services nexGTv and Box TV.
The Samsung Z1 is promoted as Samsung’s first Tizen phone, but we dare to say that the claim is not exactly true. The very first Samsung phone running on Tizen platform, the Samsung Z, was actually announced in June 2014. The device was supposed to go on sale in Russia last summer, but the launch was postponed for unknown reasons. Bottom line – the Z1 may be the first Samsung Tizen handset to actually hit the stores, but it’s no the first to go official. The Samsung Z1 is available for purchase in India for Rs. 5,700 which is equivalent to $90. At the moment it’s unclear whether the device will arrive to other markets and if so, when.
