Samsung Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T
Before the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active went official we were wondering what Korean manufacturer could throw in to make the phone even more durable, since the standard Galaxy S5 is already dust resistant and waterproof. Now we know – featuring MIL-spec 810 certification, the Active is also shock-resistant, all which combined make the handset virtually indestructible. Previous rumors and reports suggesting IP68 certification didn’t pan out and the S5 Active is still IP67 certified, just like the Galaxy S5. It means that it will work just fine after spending up to 30 minutes in up to 3.2 feet of water.
Compared to the original Samsung Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S5 Active has a noticeably ruggedized design with additional layer of durable material protecting its corners. Hardware-wise, however, both models are practically identical. The only thing that is missing from Active is the fingerprint scanner located in the home button.
Powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, the Galaxy S5 Active features a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2,800 mAh battery, 16-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel snapper up front. The phone comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in memory out of which approximately 11 GB is available to user. There is also a microSD slot for storage expansion up to 128 GB. The handset will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat on board and a standard set of connectivity features including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi with Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
The Galaxy S5 Active has an additional button on the side which is a dedicated key for Activity Zone. With one push of the button you can launch outdoor mode that displays a barometer and compass with links to other active lifestyle apps that you may want to use.
