Samsung Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T press render leaks out

ByinLeaks & Rumors | May 24, 2014

Galaxy S4 ActiveLast year’s Samsung Galaxy S4 came in company of several cousins among which there was the Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Active. What about the current leader Galaxy S5? It seems that with its latest flagship smartphone Samsung is following exactly the same path. We have already seen the Galaxy S5 Zoom, which was announced as the Galaxy K Zoom, and Galaxy S5 Mini that may hit the stores as Galaxy S5 Dx. Now it’s time for the Galaxy S5 Active model. Don’t hold your breath just yet, though. The phone is not yet official; however, a press render of the version destined for AT&T has leaked out presenting the device in all its potential.

AT&T Galaxy S5 ActiveThe render has made its way to web thanks to courtesy of popular tipster – @evleaks. The Galaxy S5 Active, just like its predecessor, will be a ruggedized device made with active users in mind. Last year Samsung had it pretty easy. All it took to turn the Galaxy S4 into a more durable offering was to use more resistant body and make the phone waterproof. This year the company had to be more creative.

The Galaxy S5 was given IP67 rating which means that it’s protected against particle and liquid ingression for up to 30 minutes in up to 3.2 feet of water. Obviously, the Galaxy S5 Active will have to offer much more in order to attract customers. The phone is allegedly IP68 certified, which means that it can survive in up to 5 feet of water for a full hour. Moreover, the S5 Active will be most likely resistant to drops, which is suggested by bumpers on the phone’s edges.

As for hardware, it’s hard to be 100% certain, but it appears that the handset will be almost identical to the original Galaxy S5. It’s rumored to sport a 5.1 or 5.2 inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution, and 16-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization. A quad-core 2.46 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor is expected to be ticking under the phone’s heavy-duty hood, along with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

According to the render, the Galaxy S5 Active will be headed to AT&T, though it’s unclear whether it will be exclusive to the network like the Galaxy S4 Active, or if other carriers will offer the phone too. Latest rumors hint that beyond AT&T the handset may be carried also by Sprint.
