Four new Samsung tablets were expected to be announced at CES and guess what? The Korean company didn’t disappoint us and lifted the veils off of all four slates. The Samsung Galaxy Note Pro, Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 belong to a new Pro lineup of tablets and, as you rightly suspect, all come with top specs and features. All four tablet are set to go on sale some time in the first quarter of 2014; however exact dates, regions and pricing are yet to be revealed.
Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.1 with S Pen
At the top of the list is the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro which is a state of the art tablet inside out. As you might have guessed from the “Note” part in the name, the slate comes with S Pen and at 12.2 inches is actually the largest device to make use of the stylus. The Super Clear LCD screen of the Galaxy Note Pro has a 16:10 aspect and offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. Given the size of the display, the pixel density works out to 247 ppi.
The tablet comes in several configurations, with Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi + 3G and LTE connectivity, each with either 32 GB or 64 GB of storage and microSD slot to add another 64 GB of space. The LTE model is powered by a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, while a “true octa-core” 1.9 GHz Exynos 5 Octa chip can be found in the other two versions. The Galaxy Note Pro features 3 GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a huge 9500 mAh battery.
The slate runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box complete with Magazine UX user interface. True to its name, the UI resembles a magazine page with tiled layout called “dashboard” for categorizing your favorite content. Samsung pre-loaded the tablet with a vast selection of apps, such as Bitcasa, Bloomberg Businessweek+, Blurb, Cisco WebEx Meetings, Dropbox, Easilydo Pro for Tablet, Evernote, Hancom Office for Android, LinkedIn, LIVESPORT.TV, NY Times, Oxford Advanced Learner’s A-Z, and Sketchbook Pro.
Galaxy Tab Pro 12.1 vs. Galaxy Note Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 is almost identical to the Galaxy Note Pro. The only difference between these two tablets is that the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 has no support for S Pen. Other than that, all specs and features remains the same, from the 12.2-inch display, through the processor, down to dual cameras and battery size.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and Pro 8.4
Most of these high-end features can also be found on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. That includes the 2560 x 1600 resolution, a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or 1.9 GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor, 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The smaller slate, however, sports a 10.1-inch screen and offers 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory, 2 GB of RAM and an 8220 mAh battery.
The smallest of the series, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, is quite similar to its 10.1-inch brother in almost all aspects, except for the size of the display and a battery which has a capacity of 4800 mAh. Since the slate offers the same 2560 x 1600 resolution as the rest of the family, yet comes with a smaller screen, the pixel density 359 ppi is simply awesome. Actually, it is the highest ppi ever seen on a tablet.
