Judging from the latest leaks, Samsung is wrapping up work on the successors of two budget offerings – the Galaxy Pocket and Galaxy Core. In fact, it looks like both phones are almost ready for launch, at least in Vietnam. Still unannounced by the manufacturer, the dual-SIM Galaxy Pocket 2 and Galaxy Core 2 have surfaced at Vietnamese online store Mainguyen, revealing prices, specs and pictures. Here is what we managed to find out about the devices.
Samsung Galaxy Core 2 vs. Galaxy Pocket 2
The Samsung Galaxy Pocket 2, like its predecessor, is an entry-level offering which will cost VND 1,800,000 or $85 when it’s released. True to its name, the Pocket 2 is a handset that easily fits even into a small pocket thanks to its compact body of 109.7 x 60.6 x 11.7 mm and 110 grams of weight. With such modest dimensions obviously you can’t expect a large screen. Indeed, the Pocket 2 features a 3.2-inch display offering QVGA resolution.
The phone is powered by a 1 GHz processor paired with 512 MB of RAM, but there is no word on internal memory. As for cameras, there is a 2-megapixel sensor on the back and a VGA camera on the front. The handset also sports a 1,200 mAh battery and dual-SIM support with quad-band 2G for both cards and dual-band 21Mbps 3G for at least one card.
Expected to be priced at VND 3,990,000, which is about $190 upon launch, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 sits a tad higher in the smartphone hierarchy, though still is a pretty basic device. Measuring 130.2 x 67.9 x 9.8 mm, and weighing 138 grams, the phone is bigger and heavier than the Pocket 2 and naturally comes with a larger display of 4.5 inches. The screen offers WVGA resolution which works out to a quite decent pixel density of 207 ppi.
The Galaxy Core 2 packs quad-core Cortex-A7 processor along with 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of built-in storage expandable via microSD slot. As far as connectivity is concerned, the dual-SIM device offers 21Mbps 3G for at least one SIM card, quad-band 2G for both cards, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0. Other features include a 5-megapixel main camera, VGA user-facing shooter and a 2,000 mAh battery.
Both, the Galaxy Pocket 2 and Galaxy Core 2 will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board.
