Samsung ATIV Odyssey for Verizon is now available for $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate

Verizon ATIV OdysseyThe Samsung ATIV Odyssey, the first manufacturer’s Windows 8 smartphone, was first expected to be released in December on Verizon network, but for some reason the launch date was changed. A month ago, the carrier announced that the phone will be global ready and will be available on January 24th and here it is, right on schedule this time. The new Samsung ATIV Odyssey will set you back just $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate, if you agree to sign a new 2-year service agreement with Verizon.

Samsung ATIV Odyssey Verizon The Samsung ATIV Odyssey for Verizon Wireless is a budget-friendly, mid-range Windows 8 phone  that features a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and HD video capture and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing shooter. The phone has a dedicated camera button, which facilitates the process of taking photos and significantly reduces the time needed to launch the camera, and Shutterbugs app can apply filters, frames and stickers in addition to resizing, rotating and cropping photos.

Driving the handset is a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (Krait) MSM8960 processor, which is accompanied by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. If it is not enough storage for you, the ATIV Odyssey has a microSD card slot compatible with up to 64 GB cards, so you should not experience any major capacity issues. Plus, the phone is integrated with SkyDrive, which offers 7 GB of free cloud storage.

The ATIV Odyssey is Global Ready phone, so it would be a good choice for those who travel a lot, since it works with GPRS / EDGE / GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900), HSPA / UMTS (2100) networks. In terms of connectivity the handset offers supports for Verizon’s super fast 4G LTE network, Bluetooth 3.1 and Wi-Fi with mobile hotspot capability for up to 8 devices.

The ATIV Odyssey runs Windows 8 operating system, which is both easy-to-use and customizable. Live Tiles allow you to pin the most important apps right on your screen and innovative the Now app puts the information you want at the tips of your fingers. The Now app provides easy access to weather, news, stocks and more, so you stay up to date on important information all in one app, and thanks to Kid’s Corner your little ones can use the phone and access only to the apps, games, videos, and music you choose for them.

The handset is integrated with Microsoft Services and products such as Xbox live, Microsoft Outlook Exchange contacts & Calendar, Office, OneNote and SharePoint, and provides access to the Windows Phone Store which has over 120,000 apps to choose from including the most popular games like “Angry Birds Star Wars,” “Cut the Rope Experiments,” “Disney’s Where’s My Water,” “LivingSocial,” “Temple Run,” “Urbanspoon” and many more.
Other features of the ATIV Odyssey include: video streaming and music player, access to Gmail, Yahoo, AOL and Windows Live Hotmail, and a 2100 mAh battery, which according to the manufacturer should guarantee up to 19 hours of usage and up to 7 days of standby.
