Believe or not but spring is on its way. In fact it will be officially here in a little over a month. What does it mean? Weekends in the country, biking trips, long hikes in the middle of nowhere, in other words – more time spent outside being active. While our bodies certainly will be thankful for that, our electronic equipment such as phones may suffer a great deal. Or not if it’s the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 Android smartphone – a phone that can survive all sorts of abuses.
Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 Heavy Duty Phone
The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3, as you might have guessed already is a follow-up to last year’s Xcover 2 and like any other successor it comes with some improvements. Being a rugged device, the Xcover 3 sports characteristic bumpers around the edges which are meant to protect the phone from shattering to pieces when dropped.
Thanks to the though build, the phone certainly won’t win any contest for the thinnest device, but at 9.95 mm it’s in fact quite slim for a rugged phone. And rugged it is in every sense of the word, since it is built to adhere to Military Standard 810G meaning that it can withstand exposure to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock. Moreover, as IP67 certification promises, the handset is dust and water-resistant up to 1 meter for up 30 minutes.
As far as hardware is concerned, the Xcover 3 can still be classified as a mid-ranger, albeit pretty close to entry-level end of the spectrum. The phone packs a 4.5-inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. Other key features include 5-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel selfie shooter, 2200 mAh battery, altimeter, compass, GPS, NFC and Android 4.4 KitKat upgradeable to 5.0 Lollipop.
Samsung will officially present the Galaxy Xcover 3 to the public at CeBIT in Germany and probably then will reveal the exact launch date and pricing. At the moment it seems like April is when we can expect the phone to hit the stores. So far Samsung hasn’t confirmed how much the handset will cost, but the price of €275, which would be approximately $290, was mentioned more than once.
