Republic Wireless added nine new cool Android phones to its portfolio including Galaxy S7, Nexus 6P, Moto G4
As you probably know, there are four major carriers in the US, that is AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as a number of smaller ones, the so-called MVNOs – Mobile Virtual Network Operators, which use one of the bigger companies bands to provide service. One of such carriers is Republic Wireless, but it doesn’t operate like other MVNOs. Even though it runs on Sprint’s network, the carrier relies mostly on Wi-Fi for communication which allows for much cheaper plans. There was, however, a little problem with the network – its smartphone selection was limited to just a few models. Those days are gone now, though, since Republic Wireless added nine new cool Android phones to its portfolio.
Republic Wireless just enriched its smartphone offer. Now you can use the carrier’s Wi-Fi calling service on the Galaxy S7, Nexus 6P, Moto G4 and more.
New phones and pricing
These three phones are the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Nexus 6P and the Moto G4 and in fact they are not the only models that will be available in Republic’s store from now on. In addition to these three devices, the company also started selling the Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy J3, Samsung Galaxy S6, Nexus 5X, Moto X Pure Edition and Moto G4 Plus. Since Republic Wireless is a pre-paid carrier, the phones can be had only at full retail price or with monthly installments over 18 months.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is priced at $699 or $42 per month, while the Edge variant will set you back $100 more, that is $799 or $48 per month. Last year’s flagship, the Galaxy S6, costs $549 which works out to $33 per month. The cheapest of Samsung phones is the Galaxy J3 which sells for $179 or $11 per month. As far as Nexus devices are concerned, the 6P made by Huawei comes with a $499 price tag which would be $30 per month with installment plan, and the 5X costs $349 or $21 per month. Republic is also selling three Motorola phones – the Moto X Pure Edition priced at $349 or $21 per month, the Moto G4 for grabs for $199 or $12 per month and the Moto G4 Plus offered for $299 or $18 per month with installments.
Since Republic Wireless’ phone use Wi-Fi for calls and data whenever possible and only switch to cellular when no Wi-Fi connection is available, plans are much more affordable than on other networks. The cheapest plan costs $15 and includes unlimited Wi-Fi and cellular talk, text and Wi-Fi data and for $5 more ($20 per month) you can get all the above plus 1GB of cellular data. Still need more data? The carrier has a plan with 2GB of cellular data for $30 per month and for $35 per month your cellular data will increase to 4GB.
Up until recently, Republic Wireless phones needed to have tweaked software to take advantage of the carrier’s Wi-Fi-first service. For this reason, the operator offered only several models. However, such modifications are no longer required which made it possible to add so many new phones to the offer. Moreover, you can now even bring your own device to the network. How cool is that?
