It has been a tough year for Pantech company. Despite the success of the Vega Secret lineup, the Korean manufacturer has been struggling to sell its products in its home market as well as globally. In result weak sales put the company in financial distress. However, it seems that rescue is on the way in form of successor to the last year’s Vega Iron. The Pantech Vega Iron 2 is expected to arrive some time in May loaded with the newest Snapdragon 805 processor and bigger phablet size screen.
5.5-inch Pantech Vega Iron 2 Phablet
Qualcomm’s latest chip, the Snapdragon 805 has been official for some time now, however, hasn’t been employed in any smartphone just yet. Typically, we would expect such processor to debut on a brand that is equally popular worldwide, so we were pretty surprised to learn that the first phone released with the Snapdragon 805 processor on board would be the Pantech Vega Iron 2. It’s not not that Pantech is a weak reputation, don’t take it wrong way. On the contrary, in its domestic market, Pantech is considered a quality brand, however internationally, for example in the US, it’s not customers’ first choice.
Anyway, the Pantech Vega Iron 2, like most smartphones scheduled for launch this year, won’t bring any dramatic upgrades over previous-generation model but rather subtle improvements both in design and hardware. The phone is expected to feature an “endless metal” chassis and a big, possibly 5.5-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution.
As we mentioned before, the device will be powered by the newest chip which allegedly will be supported by 2 GB of RAM. According to the rumors, the Vega Iron 2 will be available in two storage options, with 32 GB and 64 GB of internal memory, and will come with USB 3.0 support and LTE-A connectivity. The phone is also expected to pack 13-megapixel rear camera, 3-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and a 2,800 mAh battery.
The Vega Iron 2 will be launched in four versions – M-A910S, M-A910K, M-A910L, and M-A910D. The first three will be headed to major Korean carriers. The last one appears to be an international model, though it probably will be available only in select markets.
