The most eco-friendly Pantech phone, Renue, has just been lunched on AT&T network. It is available in stores and online for only $69.99 after new 2 year agreement and $50 mail-in rebate. The phone is made of 67% recycled material which makes it one of the most environmental friendly phones.

At only 3.9 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide by about 0.47 inch thick, the Pantech Renue weighs 4.5 ounces so it feels rather heavy, which does not have to be a flaw since it gives an impression of sturdiness. The Pantech Renue with the rugged shell is designed to keep up with the active lifestyle, tested and rated to military specs for sand, dust, extreme temperatures, humidity, vibration, and sun.
The phone has a 3.2-inch touch screen display with a 320×240-pixel resolution and high responsiveness, so navigating is pretty easy. The Pantech Renue also features a 3-megapixel camera lens, unfortunately, with no flash. Videos taken on the Renue will be basic under 1 megapixel. The phone can capture and play back in the MPEG-4 format. A 15f/s, QVGA size is the maximum; it’ll also record in 176×144 and a smaller size specifically for MMS.
Since Pantech Renue is reffered to as messaging device, it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with four rows of neat, aquamarine-accented buttons. The keys are fairly flat to the surface, which for users with bigger fingers may be a bit problematic. To make typing easier, the phone offers punctuation buttons as well as predictive suggestion boxes to correct spelling.
The Pantech Renue features 256 MB of RAM and internal memory storage of up to 185 MB which can be expanded to up to 32 GB with a microSD card. The battery’s capacity of 1000 mAh allows for up to 3 hours talk time and up to 10 days standby time.
The Renue runs on Pantech’s proprietary operating system, based on BREW. The decision to use this no so popular operating system, might be dictated by the desire to keep costs down as the phone is one of the few data free phones, which do not to require purchasing a data plan on carrier’s networok.
The Pantech Renue has Bluetooth and Internet access over AT&T’s 3G network, unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi. The e-mail app allows you to sign to various accounts including Gmail, AT&T Mail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, and AIM. The phone is equipped with GPS and you can choose from various mapping apps including a 30-day trial of AT&T Navigator with turn-by-turn directions, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Maps, and the Where apps.
Other apps on Pantech Renue include: a Web browser, your MyAT&T account, Yellow Pages Mobile, an app manager to delete or update your downloads and shortcuts to Facebook and Twitter’s mobile site. The phone also features a selection of the most useful tools like an alarm clock, a calendar, a notepad, a sketch pad, a voice recorder, a world clock, a calculator and tip calculator, a unit converter, a stop watch, and a timer, among others.
