Oppo begins new year in a busy manner and is expanding its smartphones portfolio with new Android phones. In addition to the Oppo U3 having just received its TENAA network license, Oppo also introduced a new member of the R1 series. Earlier today the Chinese manufacturer launched dual-SIM Oppo R1C Android phone featuring sapphire glass panel, 64-bit octa-core, and 13-megapixel camera.

As far as hardware is concerned, the Oppo R1C is a typical mid-ranger device. The phone packs a 5-inch 720p display and is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and assisted by 2GB of RAM. Storage space offered by the device is pretty decent at 16GB plus there is a microSD slot for memory expansion up to 128GB.
The Oppo R1C is on par with high-end phones when it comes to camera setup. The 13-megapixel rear camera uses a Sony IMX214 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens and the front-facing camera shoots photos at 5 megapixels. This 4G phone also has support for dual-SIM and power is provided by a 2,420 mAh battery. The R1C will ship with Color OS 2.0.1 which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
The specs may not wow you, but the phone is unique in one aspect – the back of the device is covered in sapphire glass which makes it virtually indestructible. The back panel is not only scratch and shatter resistant but it’s also highly reflective. In fact, the sapphire back acts like a mirror so you can see your reflection at every angle. Moreover, by using this premium material, Oppo was able to bring the thickness of the phone down to just 6.85mm. The R1C will be available in blue and white variants.
The unlocked Oppo R1C can be pre-ordered from Oppo’s online store for a price of CNY 2,499, which is roughly $400. It will start shipping in just a few days, on January 20th at 10:00 AM to be more exact. If you are interested, hit Oppo’s store and you will have your very own sapphire phone in no time.
