Following a teaser of a new 4G smartphone, Oppo officially unveiled its latest offering in Malaysia which is supposed to bring LTE connectivity to a much wider audience. Called Oppo Neo 5 LTE, the phone is a successor to the Oppo Neo and comes with significantly updated internals and a price tag that makes it one of the most budget-friendly phones that you can get your hands on.
Oppo Neo 5 LTE Smartphone
The Oppo Neo 5 doesn’t look half bad with its 4.5-inch display offering 480×854 resolution at a pixel density of 218 ppi. It’s not heavy to carry around as it weighs only 132.5 g. With dimensions of 132 x 65.8 x 9.2 mm it’s also pretty compact, at least compared to other similar devices. The phone runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the company’s ColorOS UI on top.
The Oppo Neo 5 offers a generous selection of connectivity options including 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? As far as storage is concerned, the phone comes with about as much as you could expect of a handset of this class. It houses 4 GB of internal memory which luckily is expandable up to 32 GB with microSD card. With a capacity of 1,900 mAh, the battery is on a lowlish side.
Are you fond of taking photographs? For that purpose the Neo 5 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and BSI CMOS sensor. It also packs a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a treat for those who are addicted to selfies. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 CPU and has 1GB of RAM.
The Oppo Neo 5 LTE is expected to be available in Malaysia next week at a price of $190 only. It may not be the most high-end offering out there; in fact, it’s a mid-ranger at the most, but you will definitely have a hard time finding an LTE smartphone at a lower price. As for wider availability, so far there is no word on whether the Oppo Neo 5 LTE will ever make it outside of Asia, but lets hope for the best.
