Amazon has just announced a new service called Prime Now that guarantees one-hour delivery of so-called “essential products”. The service is initially available only in New York City, in specific areas of Manhattan, to be exact but the company has ambitious plans to expand it to other cities in the nearest future.
Amazon kicks off one-hour delivery in NYC
Seeing the rising interest in local one-hour delivery offered by other services like, Urbanfetch, Kizomdo or the latest Google’s Express shopping service, Amazon in fear for losing its customers, especially those being residents of big metropolises, introduced their own instant delivery service.
The Prime Now covers delivery of thousands of essential products. However, in order to take advantage of the new service, you have to be an Amazon Prime subscriber, which means you have to pay a special subscribing fee at $99 per year. But, then you have the Amazon’s promise to get the product you ordered within just an hour or even less for flat rate $7.99. Additionally, there’s also a two-hour delivery option which is free. The service is available seven days a week from 6 am till midnight. Sadly, as for now it is accessible only for selected areas of Manhattan.
For all those buying at Amazon via mobile device, you can already get the Prime Now app for Android through the Amazon Appstore. But remember that you need to be a Prime subscriber to complete the express delivery orders. In addition, the app contains a special delivery tracker function that enables you to check the progress of your order delivery in real time.
From now on you don’t even have to leave your place to get your daily essentials. Thanks to Amazon they will be delivered at your doorstep within just an hour. Buying online has never been easier and more convenient before, don’t you think? As for the more extended access to new service, although Amazon promises to spread the service to other big cities in 2015, so far it hasn’t published yet which cities are on the Prime Now access list.
