In an army of black and white, and recently also silver and gold phones, every device which adds a little bit of color is a welcome change, at least for users who like to stand out in the crowd. With such users in mind, way back in February HTC announced the speckled HTC Desire 530. Last month the manufacturer confirmed that it would be bringing its unusually looking phone to the US and the company sure made good on its promise. Now you can buy the HTC Desire 530 in the US either unlocked or in T-Mobile flavor.
T-Mobile just began selling the colorful HTC Desire 530 with HTC’s BoomSound audio technology at a price tag of just $159.99. The phone is also offered unlocked by the manufacturer itself.
Pricing and availability
T-Mobile is the first and so far the only carrier to sell the HTC Desire 530 in the US. Even though the phone’s recommended price is $179, the Magenta network priced the device at $159.99. Alternatively, you can opt for monthly installments, in which case the handset will set you back $6.67 per month for 24 months. If you don’t want any carrier commitment, you can grab the Desire 530 unlocked directly from HTC for $179. Verizon will also add the phone to its portfolio, but so far no date was revealed.
Desire 530’s most distinctive features is its appearance. To say that the device is ‘colorful’ might be a bit of an overstatement, but its body is not plain like most phones’. The back plate and sides are covered in teeny tiny speckles of paint in a number of colors which contrast with the main hue. The end result is pretty interesting and brings to mind a starry night. Moreover, the speckles are distributed in a random pattern so you can be sure that there’s not a single device in the whole world which looks exactly like yours.
Specs and features
Besides its unusual design, the Desire 530 is a pretty modest offering. As far as hardware is concerned, the phone’s most notable features seem to be the 5-inch LCD display with a decent 720p resolution and the cameras. The main 8-megapixel shooter offers auto-focus, BSI sensor, ƒ/2.4 aperture, 34mm focal length, HDR mode and panorama mode, while the 5-megapixel selfie camera comes with such options as Auto selfie, Voice Selfie, Touch to capture, etc. Worth mentioning is also the fact that the handset is equipped with HTC’s BoomSound audio technology.
Other than that, the Desire 530 sports entry-level specs. The phone is powered by a 1.1GHz Snapdragon 210 chip paired with just 1.5GB of RAM and offers only 16GB of storage, though luckily it has a microSD slot which allows to add up to 2TB of memory more. Other key features include Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and a 2,000 mAh battery which should be good for up to 15 hours of talk time or up to 17 days of standby time. The phone will be shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with HTC Sense on top.
The Desire 530 may not impress you with its hardware, but HTC is hoping that it will appeal to users’ aesthetic sense. Indeed, the phone looks intriguing, so if you are in the market for an inexpensive device with unique design, the HTC Desire 530 may be worth a try.
