Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 4G LTE Windows Phone 8.1 go official

Nokia Lumia 630As we reported numerous times before, Nokia was working on a couple of entry-level Windows Phone 8.1 phones, the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635. The handsets were rumored to be announced on the first day of Microsoft’s BUILD conference and that’s exactly what happened. Both, the Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 are now official and ready to hit the stores. Destined for emerging markets the phones will be offered with affordable price tag. The Lumia 630 will go on sale in May in Europe, Asia, Russia, and China for $159 and $169 for the single and dual-SIM version respectively. The Lumia 635 will start rolling out in July with a price of $189. In the US, the phone will be available on T-Mobile and Metro PCS.

Nokia Lumia 635The Nokia Lumia 630 and 635 are very close relatives. In fact, the only difference between these two phones is the fact that the Lumia 630 will use 3G connectivity and will be available in single and dual-SIM variants, while the 4G LTE-enabled Lumia 635 will be single-SIM only.

Support for dual-SIM is one of the new features introduced by Windows Phone 8.1. The software was tweaked so that it includes separate dialer and messaging tiles for each SIM cards. In order to make dual-SIM experience more user-friendly, Windows Phone 8.1 uses color coding. Also, each card can be separately assigned to work only with specific contacts.

Other than that, the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 are identical. Both phones feature a 4.5-inch FWVGA ClearBlack IPS LCD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and are powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The chip is supported by 512 MB of RAM and there is also 8 GB of internal memory along with microSD slot for storage expansion. Other features of these affordable Lumias include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a standard set of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and micro-USB.

Both devices will ship with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 on board along with all its new features including a new voice search tool called Cortana, Sensor Core, Bing Health and Fitness app. The Nokia 630 and Lumia 635 will be available with in five colors (black, white, yellow, orange and green) with the option of changeable plastic back panels.
