Four new HTC Desire phones bound for US carriers – Desire 626, Desire 626s, Desire 520 and Desire 526
For the last three years HTC has been focused mostly on the premium One series, somewhat neglecting more budget-conscious customers. The company launched a few mid-range phones; however, its contribution to the mid tier has been rather modest recently, at least compared to the most prolific manufacturers. It’s time for a change, though. HTC has just announced four new Desire phones bound for US carriers – the Desire 520, Desire 526, Desire 626 and Desire 626s.
HTC Desire 626 and Desire 626 S
The most attractive member of the team is the HTC Desire 626. The phone packs a big 5-inch Super LCD display with HD 1280×720 resolution and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor. The device comes with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 8-megapixel rear camera, generous 5-megapixel front-facing sensor and 2, 000 mAh battery. The operating system of choice is Android 5.1 Lollipop with HTC’s Sense UI. The Desire 626 will land on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.
The Desire 626s is very similar to the 626 model, though it’s a bit more modest in a few aspects. The handset offers 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in memory and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Other features, that is the screen, processor, main camera and battery, are the same as the Desire 626. The phone is expected to arrive to T-Mobile and Metro PCS.
HTC Desire 526 and Desire 520
Stepping down a notch, we have the HTC Desire 526 phone – a more compact offering a 4.7-inch 960×540 display. Like the other two, the 520 also has a quad-core Snapdragon 210 chip under the hood. The processor is accompanied by 1.5GB of RAM and there is 8GB of storage with microSD slot for expansion. Other key features include 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel selfie shooter and 2,000 mAh battery. The Desire 526 also will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
The last one (but not least) on the list is the HTC Desire 520. This model differs from the Desire 526 in that it sports a 4.5-inch 854×480 display and 1GB of RAM. Other specs are identical. The Desire 520 also runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and it will be a prepaid exclusive on Cricket.
All four phones will be released on a number of US carriers including AT&T, Boost Mobile, Cricket, Metro PCS, Sprint Prepaid, T-Mobile, Tracfone, Verizon, and Virgin Mobile. HTC didn’t provide exact launch dates, but the new members of the Desire family should start arriving in stores in the next few days, the rest should arrive later this month.
As for the pricing, it is also unknown for now, though T-Mobile revealed that the Desire 626s will be for grabs for $0 down, $7.09 for 23 months, and $6.92 for the 24th month, or $169.99 total without any long term contracts. Metro PCS, on the other hand, confirmed that the Desire 626s will go on sale on August 3rd and will be priced at $79. Sprint announced that is planning to launch the Desire 626 on its prepaid service starting July 19 for $129.99.
