Neptune Pine smartwatchThe Neptun Pine smartwatch was presented for the first time in 2013, later on the project was launched as a Kickstarter campaign. Now, after more than a year the long-rumored device is starting its journey to the first batch of its backers. Even if the company take their time with the project, it was worth to wait for, since the Neptun Pine is the first completely standalone smartwatch featuring functions of a regular smartphone.

Neptune Pine – A Revolutionary Wearable Smartphone?

The Neptun PineDuring a very successful Kickstarter campaign, the company managed to gather over 2,800 supporters that donated the project with the total sum of $800,000. The gathered money allowed the manufacturer to create the very first completely independent combination of a watch and a phone sporting smart technology. It seems that dreams about high-tech gadgets from James Bond movie series became reality.

As its comes to the body design the Neptun Pine looks really heavy with its size and square form, but all the esthetic factors seem to lose on its meaning since the watch offers multiplicity of innovative tech specs. The device is said to house quite a massive as for a watch 2.4-inch full color, touch screen display with smart QWERTY keyboard. Going further, the Neptun Pine is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor combined with 512MB of RAM. The watch goes on sale in two versions one with 16GB of built-in storage that goes for $349 and the second more expensive version with 32GB of internal storage that can be yours for $449.

In addition, the smartwatch has two camera sensors, rear and front-facing (still of unknown parameters), so you won’t miss any important shot. The device supports GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. And thanks to its compatibility with 2G and 3G cellular networks, the Neptun Pine is a unconventional smartphone that clings to your wrist. Due to internal speaker and microphone, you can make and receive calls and text messages via your watch without the necessity of putting your hand of any other device. This is undoubtedly the most spectacular feature of the gadget. The watch has a 810 mAh battery that can be charged via micro USB slot.

The running Android 4.3+ Neptun Pine can be paired up, although there’s no necessity, with any other Android devices, in order to receive the notification on your wrist. If all these is still not enough for you, it is worth mentioning that the smartwatch is labeled with IP67 tag, which makes it water and dust resistant. Additionally, the smartwatch just like Samsung Gear Fit or the Ironman GPS One+ is also a fitness and health focused device, since thanks to the variety of special apps it can measure your run distance and pace.

The first batch of the Neptun Pine has already started its shipping to its backers and the second batch is scheduled to be sent by the fourth quarter of 2014. But, all of you who didn’t back up the project via Kickstarter early enough, have no reason to regret, since they may still have the Neptun Pine on their own by purchasing the device in pre-order for price starting from $349. It seems to be quite a whopping price, but if we think about the watch it terms of the revolutionary wearable smartphone it is worth all the money.
