Laptops are slowly becoming an old school, but some users feel that tablets are lacking something. With those users in mind Microsoft announced today an upgraded version of the Surface Pro tablet / laptop hybrid. The Surface Pro 2 will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, September 24 and will hit the stores a month later, on October 22. Prices for the tablet start at $899 for the basic model offering 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM and go up to $1,799 for the version with 512 GB of memory and 8 GB of RAM.

In terms of design the Surface Pro 2 looks just like its predecessor but all the upgrades can be found inside. The tablet is powered by a new Haswell chip and can be bundled with a handful of accessories. If you like numbers, here are the figures. The new processor allows for up to 75% longer life than the previous model. The screen color accuracy was improved by 50%, as were graphics. Overall performance is 20% better that the predecessor’s and the Surface Pro 2 is faster than almost all laptops available on the market these days.
To enhance your tablet experience even more, Microsoft adds several useful accessories, including a docking station, Power Cover and Type Cover 2. The docking station offers three USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 jack, a mini DisplayPort, Ethernet connection and audio input / output. The new Power Cover turns the tablet into fully functional laptop with a comfortable to use QWERTY keyboard. The Cover can additionally extend the battery life up to 2.5 times. The new Type Cover is backlit and allows for more accurate typing thanks to employment of 1,092 sensors.
