Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7As it usually happens in the mobile industry, the very first tablets with mobile data support were pretty costly gadgets, despite offering less than perfect experience. That, however, was a long time ago. Now you can easily find a decent slate at budget-friendly price. One such device has just arrived at Metro PCS. The carrier is now selling the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 tablet with cellular connectivity for $149 without a long term contract.

Metro PCS launches low cost OneTouch Pop 7

Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7The Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 is a pretty low-end model; however, there is one feature that makes it especially worth your attention – the capability to connect to Metro PCS’s HSPA+ network. While cellular data is nothing unusual in a tablet, it’s not commonly found on devices priced at under $150.

Besides fast data, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 is not exactly a spectacular offering. Powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, the slate sports a 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution and 5-point multi-touch, and it comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Thanks to microSD slot the storage can be expanded up to 32GB.

The tablet is also equipped with dual cameras – a 2-megapixel shooter is on the back and a VGA sensor sits on the front panel above the screen. The 3,240 mAh battery is expected to deliver up to 8 hours of continuous use on a single charge. Given the specs, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 won’t serve as a professional tool for work, but it should be more than capable of providing hours of entertainment on the go. That is, if you can get past a pretty outdated version of the operating system. How outdated? The tablet runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which was released in 2012.

The Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 can be paired with one of Metro PCS’ new data plans and is available with a special $5 discount which will be applied to your monthly bill. Taking into account the discount, the plans cost $10, $20 and $30 per month and include 1GB, 3GB and 5GB of high-speed data, respectively. The discounted prices come with one condition, though. In order to take advantage of the new plan you need to have a Metro PCS phone account already.
