How to make your iPhone or Android phone waterproof for just 30 bucks

ByinTips & Guides | August 9, 2014

Waterproof your iPhoneSony was the very first manufacturer that introduced waterproof high-end smartphones to the market and now following in the company’s footsteps, more and more phone makers use waterproof design in their flagships. A perfect example is the Samsung Galaxy S5. But what about older Android devices, or iPhones that are not expected to come with waterproof quality any time soon? Will the users always be subject to the risk of damaging their phones by accidental contact with water? The answer is – not necessarily. Impervious will help you make your iPhone or Android phone waterproof for just 30 bucks.

Do it yourself: How to make your smartphone waterproof.

Impervious SprayImpervious is a company based in Los Angeles, California, that was founded this year with the goal to provide a Do It Yourself solution for users seeking to protect their phones from water damage. Impervious started as a Kickstarter project aiming at collecting $7,500 for iPhone waterproofing kit. The idea gained so many fans that Impervious ended up with over $54,000 to make the kit.

What’s best about the product is that is costs just $29.95. It means that for less than $30 you can add protection against liquid ingression to your iPhone 5/5S or Android phone. Impervious also offers kits for iPads and Android tablets. These are somewhat more expensive and cost between $34.95 and $39.95.

Impervious offers two degrees of protection. The basic kit includes a spray that you can apply to your phone yourself. Containing invisible molecules 1000x smaller than a human hair, the nano spray protects the device from accidental spills and light rain. Not only that, but when applied to the screen, the spray also adds extra protection against scratches.

If you need more protections, Impervious has special Waterproofing Kits for iDevices. In contrast to the basic spray which is applied only externally, the waterproofing spray is applied to the outside and inside of your device and gives it a rating of IPX7. In other words, you will be able to leave your iPhone or iPad in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes and it still should be as good as new. It’s worth noting that Impervious doesn’t recommend doing this, but in case of an accident, the iDevice shouldn’t suffer any damage.

Adding waterproof properties to a regular phone is not a new idea. There are other companies that offer such services. However, in order to make your phone waterproof you have to send it to the said company which isn’t without downsides. First, you are without your phone for a long period of time. Second, there is a risk that the phone could be damaged during the shipment. The biggest advantage of Impervious kits is that you don’t have to part with the device and you can apply the spray yourself. The spray has a semi-permanent lifetime of 3 years and it is environmentally safe. Moreover, the kits cost far less than any solution offered previously. The kits are already available in stores.

How do I make sure from the spec. of the cell phone that a unlocked and no-contract smartphone will really work on T-Mobile 4G LTE network?
What bands of frequencies ( as it is shown in the spec,, such as Hspa+ 1700/2100, … etc.) does T-Mobile 4G LTE network use?

    • T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies. HSPA+ 4G network operates on the 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies.
