Most manufacturers waited until IFA to announced their new phones in order to make sure that the products would receive a proper amount of attention. LG, however, followed a different strategy and unveiled a pair of new lower mid-range phones in late October. One of the phones, the LG L Fino, has just arrived to Virgin Mobile prepaid service in a slightly modified form as the LG Tribute. The handset can be had for just $79.99 on a prepaid plan with no contract, free shipping and free activation.
LG Tribute for Virgin Mobile
On the outside, the LG Tribute for Virgin Mobile is exactly the same as the L Fino from its design language to the size. In fact, the Tribute is 0.05 inches thinner despite having a larger battery, but it’s unlikely an average user would be able to tell the difference. The phone sports a 4.5-inch IPS display with 800 x 480 resolution and, like Fino, is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Graphics will be handled by Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM will help with multitasking. Users will have only 4GB of storage at their disposal, which hopefully is expandable via microSD slot.
The 5-megapixel rear camera on the Tribute is a step down from Fino’s 8-megapixel shooter. It does, however, offer LED flash and Full HD 1080p video capture. Virgin Mobile is silent on the front-facing camera, but if you look closely at the phone’s photo you can see what seems to be a camera sensor above the screen. The presence of LTE radio is a major improvement over the L Fino which is a 3G device. The Tribute’s 2,100mAh battery is also bigger than Fino’s 1,900mAh unit. The handset runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and comes with LG popular services such as Knock Code, Smart Notice and Dual Window.
For only $79.99 off contract, the LG Tribute seems to be a pretty good deal. Sure, the specs are not mind-blowing compared, for example, to the flagship LG G3 but the phone appears to be a solid device for this price range. If you are not into prepaid plans, you may be in luck, since according to rumors the Tribute might arrive at Sprint in the near future.
