LG Tribute 2 and Tribute Duo coming to Virgin Mobile and Sprint Prepaid service priced $99 without contract
For the most part we focus on high-end phones in our posts, but in fact they are outnumbered by more modest devices. The thing is, though, that these less advanced phones usually don’t get so much attention. And it’s a shame, really, since some of them are pretty interesting offerings, especially if you consider price to specs ratio. If you are looking for an affordable smartphone with decent hardware and up-to-date software, you may want to check out Sprint Prepaid and Virgin Mobile offer – the LG Tribute 2 and Tribute Duo are coming to their service right this moment.
LG Tribute 2 / Duo Compact Android Smartphones
Virgin Mobile, just as Sprint Prepaid, doesn’t require contracts so you will be getting your new phone without any long-term obligation. Both, the LG Tribute 2 and Tribute Duo, are very affordable and cost exactly the same – they will set you back just $99 off contract.
The LG Tribute 2 and Tribute Duo are in fact one and the same device, but for some reason sold under different names by Sprint and Virgin Mobile. In the era of phablets, the LG Tribute 2 / Duo with its 4.5-inch display can be considered compact, though there was a time that we would call such phone huge. The IPS screen offers FWVGA (854×480) resolution which works out to a pixel density of 218 ppi. Not bad for an entry-level device. The handset is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which is paired with 1GB of RAM.
Internal memory is set at 8GB, but chances are that you will probably need more room for all your content. If that’s the case, microSD slot compatible with up to 32GB cards will certainly come in handy. The LG Tribute 2/Duo is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing sensor and, like all LG phones released recently, has rear-mounted power and volume buttons. The handset also sports a 1,900 mAh battery which should be good for up to 16 hours of usage time.
As far as software is concerned, the LG Tribute 2/Duo ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and is pre-loaded with a number of LG-specific features such as Knock Code and QuickMemo+. The former allows you to set your own knock sequence to wake and unlock your phone and the latter lets you make personalized notes on screen and schedule memos to appear at certain times using calendar inputs. Selfie enthusiasts will certainly appreciate Gesture Shot, which lets you take a photo by simply making a fist from an open palm in front of the camera, and Interval Shot, which prompts the phone to take a number of photos at once so you can choose the one you like most.
The LG Tribute 2/Duo is obviously not the most advanced smartphone on the market, but for its low price of just $99, it has quite a lot to offer. Moreover, it’s available without contract and can be paired with one of Sprint Prepaid or Virgin Mobile cheap plans which start at $35 and $30 per month, respectively. Any takers?
